What an Ephesus tour actually costs from Kuşadası.
Two of the three biggest numbers in your port day are set by the state, not by the operator. Here is the whole arithmetic at a dated central bank rate, our own price included, and the margin on it.

The short answer
The Ephesus tour cost for two guests from Kuşadası port is about USD 109 per person in 2026, entry fees included. The floor underneath that is USD 94: the state ticket is EUR 40 a head and a licensed guide has a statutory minimum. Below the floor, something has been removed, usually the ticket or the guide.

The costs nobody discounts
Three numbers that are not ours to discount.
Entry to Ephesus Ancient City for foreign visitors, 2026 season. It is a state price and it is identical whether you arrive with a private guide, on a coach or on foot. This is our own verified 2026 figure, the amount we hand over at the gate.
The statutory minimum for a licensed guide on a foreign-language day tour in 2026, set under Law 6326 and published by TUREB. Guiding inside Ephesus without a Ministry of Culture licence is illegal. Read this as a floor and not as a rate: an experienced guide costs more.

Now put the first number next to an advertised price.
A tour sold at EUR 50 per person sounds like a bargain until you subtract the ticket. EUR 40 of it belongs to the ministry before anyone has started the engine, which leaves EUR 10 for a licensed guide, a vehicle, a driver, parking, taxes and the company carrying the insurance. That is not a thin margin. It is a shopping-stop funnel.
Every dollar figure on this page converts from lira and euro at the TCMB forex selling rate of 30 July 2026, and is rounded to the nearest dollar. The euro and lira figures are exact, because those are the prices actually charged. Rates move. The arithmetic does not.

The operating segment assumes the cheaper of our two 2026 vehicle rates and a half-day allocation: the same guide and the same vehicle serve a second party in the afternoon, so a morning tour carries half of each day cost rather than all of it. At the dearer vehicle the floor for a couple is USD 102.
The honesty check on our own model
Load a whole guide day and a whole vehicle day onto a single three-hour morning and the floor for a couple becomes USD 141 per person, which is more than we charge. A model that prices our morning above our own rate is the wrong model. We publish the half-day version instead, even though the bigger number would flatter us.

You buy from the cruise line, which buys from a local operator. The line’s margin sits on top of the operator’s price and the coach is usually large, so you pay more per person and share your guide with more people.
It buys one thing nothing else can: the ship waits for its own excursions. On a tight turnaround that is worth real money.

Commission on these platforms runs 30 to 35 per cent, and it is taken before a single cost of the day is paid. What is left has to cover a licensed guide, a vehicle, a driver, parking, taxes and the operator.

When the remainder cannot cover the day, one of four things is true: the entry fee is excluded and charged at the gate, the guide is not licensed, the private tour is a shared coach, or a shopping stop pays the difference.

You pay the ticket at the gate, USD 46 per person, exactly what we pay. A taxi from the port has no fixed tariff for the Ephesus run, so agree one flat total for the whole round trip before you get in rather than watching a meter, and remember there is no public transport at all to the House of the Virgin Mary.
You save the guide and the vehicle. You pay for it in context, in timing, and in the walk back uphill to the gate you were dropped at.

Direct with a local operator
You pay one company once, and that company pays the ministry, the guide and the driver. No platform commission, no cruise-line margin, and no third party deciding what got cut to hit a headline price.
The person answering your message is the person responsible for your morning. That is the whole difference.

The entry fee is not in the price
The common one, and the easiest to check. At USD 46 a head the Ephesus ticket costs more than many advertised tours, so it is left out of the headline and collected at the gate. Ask one question before you book, of anyone: is the Ephesus entrance fee included, yes or no.

A shopping stop pays for the day
A commission from a workshop or a jewellery showroom quietly subsidises the price you were quoted. You settle the difference in minutes rather than dollars, and those are minutes not spent at Ephesus.

The guide is not licensed
Guiding inside Ephesus without a Ministry of Culture licence is illegal under Law 6326 and enforced inside the site. An unlicensed guide is cheaper for one reason: the statutory minimum does not reach them.

A shared coach is sold as private
Forty-odd seats divided into the same guide day and the same vehicle day produce a very low number per person. It is a real tour and it can be a good one. It is not a private one, and the word is doing a lot of work in the listing.
There may be prices below ours in the market, but if something is very cheap you can be sure there is another, hidden cost underneath.
One clarification, because the second item above gets misread. A genuine artisan visit is not the problem. Silk drawn from a cocoon, madder root worked through every stage of a natural dye, is a real cultural experience and one Türkiye works hard to keep alive. The problem is a workshop stop that exists because it is paying for your tour. On our days it happens only if you ask for it, never because the arithmetic needs it to.

For two guests that is USD 109 each, of which USD 46 is the Ephesus ticket we buy before you dock. Against the half-day floor of USD 94 that leaves USD 15 per person, or USD 7 at the dearer vehicle. Read that as what is left above the floor rather than as our profit: the floor prices the guide at the statutory minimum, not at what we actually pay, and parking, taxes, insurance and the office all come out of the remainder. It is the couple case as well, the tightest row on the table. At 20 guests the floor is USD 51 against our published USD 79, so the gap opens as the party grows. We are not going to pretend either number is a fortune, and we are not going to pretend it is charity. It works because the guide and the vehicle are earning again that afternoon.
Now the part about our own marketing. You will see “from USD 73” on our tour cards and in our search listings. That is the coach rate for a party of 21 to 29, the bottom row of the table above, and it is the least likely number on this page to be the one you pay. Larger parties than that we quote individually. Most “from” prices on tour sites work this way. So ask the question of us exactly as readily as you ask it of anyone else: from USD 73 for how many people?
What the price cannot show
We do not sell a private tour. We sell an experience.
Our guides are on a monthly salary
Not paid per tour. A guide paid per tour has an incentive waiting at the end of the day that has nothing to do with you: the commission from a shopping stop. A salaried guide does not. The statutory monthly minimum for a licensed guide in 2026 is TRY 55,620, about USD 1,173. That is the public floor. What we pay is between us and our guides, and the model is the part that matters to you.
QR-coded tickets, bought before you arrive
Your entry codes are in your guide’s hand before your ship is alongside. There is no ticket window in your morning, and no queue between the gangway and the marble.
Capacity is bounded by guides, not by vehicles
We serve as many guests as we have experienced guides. A vehicle can be hired on a busy morning. A guide you would trust with your own family cannot, so on the heaviest port days we turn work away rather than hand a group to someone we do not know.
The programme is built around the guest
Not the guest around the programme. Two couples on the same tour on the same morning do not get the same three hours, because they did not arrive with the same questions.
The measure we actually use is not a margin. It is whether every guest goes home happy.
